Art Aquariums

I've always loved aquariums, no matter what kind. Just looking at the water and plants in a glass tank -looking at the wild- is fascinating to me. Paper aquariums, Crochet aquariums, tiny origami aquariums.

The Shape of Art

We had a lot of fun in our ATC class this past week. Following are some fine examples of miniature, tradable art . . . Morgan and Anais collaborated to create the ATCs featured above. Pretty clever, huh? Valencia made this beautifully detailed ATC featuring a woman in a long dress. It reminds me of a sari.  And the trading card below was made by Cameron. He put lots of detail into his card, which was the main assignment! In Explorations in Art, we continued building on our knowledge of the principles and elements of art. This past week we discussed shape. Students took a tour through Miss Robin's Art Gallery to view and discuss a number of famous works. We identified the prominent shapes in each work. For instance, we noted that Grant Wood's Stone City, Iowa  (above) is mostly made up of circles and ovals! Several students also pointed out Wood's use of organic shapes. Mr. Rice's Art Classes: Week of November 22. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone !!! Graphic Design: Students finished Time Magazine covers, and are working on U.S. Postage stamps. Students need to bring in CD covers for next week's project. We are starting to use Photoshop and learning new skills. Foundations of Drawing: Students finished their Portraits. We are working on grid drawings from photos. Students will draw grid by grid matching the lines from the photo and then add color and value using the photo as a guide. Visual Art: Students are working on portraits and proportion. Students are finishing up packets to practice facial features, and shading facial features. Sketchbook Assignment: 4 portraits in sketchbook. 1 per page. Face should fill a page. I will be looking for correct proportions, and correct shading. Students must draw from life. Sketchbooks are due: Wednesday Dec. 8.
