Pooktre Tree Art

Image
"In 1986 Peter had the idea of growing a chair. Nine years later Peter and Becky became partners. Pooktre was born. Together they have mastered the art of Tree shaping. Pooktre has perfected a Gradual shaping method, which is the shaping of trees as they grow along predetermined designs. Designing and setting up the supporting famework are fundamental to the success of a tree. Some are intended for harvest to be high quality indoor furniture and others will remain living art."  http://pooktre.com/index.html

Noel Cruz

Image
"Noel Cruz is one of the most versatile and distinguished repaint artists in the doll community. He is most recognized for his  character  and  celebrity  based dolls due to their uncanny resemblance to the people they portray. His dolls are derived from several models like Gene, Tyler, Sydney, etc, by various dollmakers such as Robert Tonner and Franklin Mint. His  repaints  as well as his  portraits  are done with intricate detail to the point of being naturally lifelike in essence. Highly regarded among collectors and artists alike, Noel attempts to raise the bar and bring a fresh take to the common mass produced doll with every face he paints." http://www.ncruz.com/about.html http://www.creativetempest.com/sculpture/noel-cruz/ http://community.livejournal.com/thehausofgaga http://www.popcrunch.com/angelina-jolie-doll-ebay-auction-4300-noel-cruz/

Garage Door Murals

Image
Garage door murals are pretty cool and it isn't hard to do. Most peoples' garage doors are white or one opaque color. But some garage doors are out of this world. These kids did it in a short story I read in class and they made big bucks from painting other peoples' garage doors. http://cheltenham-art.com/andymurals2.htm http://custommuralsbybuck.com/murals__paintings http://www.spacegirlart.com/BusinessArt.html http://www.norcalminis.com/2009/08/san-francisco-garage-doors.html http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/16/AR2008041603296.html

Thanksgiving Break Approaches!

Image
Hey, Kids!  I'm a bit late posting for last week's classes because I've been a bit under the weather. I'll do a "make up" post soon. We said good bye to Valencia this past week, who is moving to Dallas. She'll be missed, but has promised to stay in touch. Norman Rockwell's Freedom From Want As we prepare for Thanksgiving break, we'll spend the coming week working on our own versions of Ex Votos in many of the art classes. These are a lot of fun, and will be a nice way to illustrate our Thankful feelings with our families over the holiday. I'm thankful to work with such a talented and cool bunch of kids! See you in class!  Miss Robin :)

PERSPECTIVE

Image
1 point perspective with vine charcoal on newsprint. By the way vine charcoal on newsprint doesn't work as nice as willow charcoal. 2 point perspective with willow charcoal on newsprint. The second from the left is a box that is wider on the top than it is on the bottom. 3 point perspective with pencil on newsprint. I made the obect on the far left too small compaired to the rest. The 3 point perspective was a lot harder to do than the other two. Bird's eye view with willow charcoal on white paper. This was fun to do but I can see that I could use more pracise with this. The obect to the bottom right was hard for me to do and I didn't seem to get it quite right. Ant's eye view with pencil on white paper. This one was fun and differnt sitting on the floor looking up.

Dalton Ghetti

Image
Dalton Ghetti makes micro sculptures on the tips of pencils. He has been creating miniscule graphite masterpieces for about 25 years. Dalton uses three tools to create the sculptures- razor blade, sewing needle, and sculpting knife. These sculptures take Dalton from months to years to make. Dalton has over a 100 broken sculptures in a box that he calls 'the cemetary collection.' These are truly amazing sculptures. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/11/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/11ctpeople.html?_r=1 http://oddstuffmagazine.com/extraordinary-art-on-pencil-tips-by-dalton-ghetti.html http://oddstuffmagazine.com/extraordinary-art-on-pencil-tips-by-dalton-ghetti.html http://oddstuffmagazine.com/extraordinary-art-on-pencil-tips-by-dalton-ghetti.html http://oddstuffmagazine.com/extraordinary-art-on-pencil-tips-by-dalton-ghetti.html http://oddstuffmagazine.com/extraordinary-art-on-pencil-tips-by-dalton-ghetti.html http://oddstuffmagazine.com/extraordinary-art-on-pencil-tips-by-dalton-ghetti.

Chalk Art

Image
This amazing form of art is not on paper or canvas but on the ground! Chalk artists draw the art on the ground and when you look at it from a certain angle, you see a picture. If you look at it from the wrong angle, it looks like a picture that was flattened or pulled until it was just a long mess. http://www.thelifeofluxury.com/images/julian_beever_sidewalk_chalk_art_1.jpg http://www.ullart.com/images/Ulla%20chalk%20art%20L&P%20dolphin%20guernard%20paua%20NZ05sm.jpg http://www.cleancutmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/3d-chalk-art-river1.jpg http://www.weirdomatic.com/pavement-art-julian-beever.html For more chalk art, go to  http://www.weirdomatic.com/pavement-art-julian-beever.html

Foundations of Drawing & Visual Arts Over the last few weeks our visual arts class has been discussing one and two point perspective. Students have been learning about how the use of perspective rules can cause the visual illusion of depth. One Point Perspective Two Point Perspective We’ve done two projects dealing with the use of perspective drawings. One Pt. Perspective DUE:10/28 & Two Pt. Perspective DUE:11/4 Foundations of Design Foundations of Design students have recently finished a project dealing with color theory and symmetry (Radial Design Project). Drawing I We have recently completed our unit of study on Perspective Drawing. The final drawing of the school building or Summit Ridge is due Friday, Nov. 12th. On Tuesday, Nov. 9, students did a check for knowledge over perspective drawing. If you were absent that day, you will need to make it up. Drawing I students are currently working on beginning activities of drawing portraits. Students received information on basic facial proportions on Monday, Nov. 8th. Students are now completing studies of eyes- 1 of their own and 3 from fellow students. These studies should be shaded and not look the same. Remember, everybody's features are different. When drawing eyes, for instance, include and be aware of the differences in length of eyelashes, color and value of iris, size and thickness of eyebrows, etc. Drawing I students also did a study drawing of the different planar surfaces of the human head and face. This example will be up on the board through the end of the week. If
